· Good supporting details that provide specific evidence to support main ideas
· Clear voice stays consistent throughout the writing

Satisfactory 60-71
· Assignment completed in an adequate manner
· Responded to most aspects of the task
· Effectively organized appropriate details to support main ideas with some elaboration
· Student voice present throughout most of the paper
· Some variety of word choice and sentence structures
Progressing 48-59
· Assignment completed
· Organization is limited
· Main ideas are present, but could be clearer
· Basic details to support main idea with little or no elaboration
· Student voice not consistent
· Little variety of word choice or sentence structures
Needs Improvement 21-47
· Assignment is completed, but lacking organization
· Main ideas are unclear, with vague details to support the main ideas
· Student voice not consistent
· Very little variety of word choice to sentence structures
Unacceptable 0-20
· Assignment incomplete or not done
· Assignment off topic – for example, student was to write a letter and they wrote a recipe
Conventions – grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, penmanship, structure - like essay, letter or poem
17-20 – few, if any mistakes, to distract the reader
13-16 – some errors (3-5) that distract the reader
9-12 – several errors (6-10) that distract the reader
5-8 – Many errors (more than 10) that distract the reader
0-4 – many errors that distract the reader, or penmanship illegible making the paper to difficult to read
