First from Jayme A
Dear 5/6 Parents,
This week(9/17-9/21/18)in Humanities we had a midterm on Thursday and Friday. We also had our weekly spelling and vocabulary quiz. The midterm was on music of the 1960s. All of the questions that were on our test were found in our notebooks. Also all the questions were on our study guide. We also had a listening quiz. That is when we listen to music and we have to write down what genre it was.
In Language arts we have been reading a book called The Revolution of Evelyn Serrano. That is about this girl named Evelyn Serrano. She is learning about her Abuelo Emilio. Evelyn is also learning why her Abuela and her mother Mami fight . It is taking place in a Puerto Rican neighborhood, also called a Spanish Harlem neighborhood, in New York.
We are also learning how to diagram sentences. We just learned how to use rocket ships. We also learned that you use a “stage” and a “wall” between the predicate. We just briefly went over how to diagram a compound sentence.

In Humanities, we have been talking about different genres of music for a while. To name a few: Rock, blues, folk, jazz, and hard rock. Obviously, there are plenty more to list, but these are the ones we have been talked about the most. Recently, we wrote an essay on which music was real music. What I am trying to say is that we have been going over different meaning words in music, trying to answer the question: Which is the real music? For example, a score is basically sheet music, a recording meaning something you can play back and listen to again, and performances, musical or dramatic productions presented before an audience. Another thing we have talked about, reinterpretations. For instance, the original Bob Dylan version of "All Along the Watchtower". Jimi Hendrix recorded the song again in 1968, a year after Bob Dylan's original. Lastly, we read different articles and watched Ted talks about classical music and the value it still has today. Music has definitely developed over the past few yea
